You have to leave A1 (Bologna - Firenze) motorway at the exit ‘Firenze Scandicci’ and continue your way towards Livorno. Drive on the A12 (Genova - Rosignano M.Mo.) motorway to the end, then go toward Rome on the highway and turn off at exit ‘Cecina centro’. At all roundabouts always follow ‘Casale Marittimo’ signs.

The Etruscans built a large empire in central Italy in the 8C BC.Having grown rich by working iron, copper and silver mines and by trading in the western mediterranean, the Etruscans, who were artisans and technicians, had a civilisation derived from a mixture of savagery and refinement.Their towns, built on elevated sites, with walls and huge stone, show an advance sense of town planning. Near them are vast burial grounds with underground chambers filled with utensils and adorned with mural paintings. The etruscan civilisation had a profound effect on Tuscany which can still be seen even today.
Situated 110 Km from the Holiday Centre, is one of the worlds greatest art and cultural centres. It is without doubt the city where the italian genius has flourished with the greatest display of brolliance and purity, as monuments such as the Uffizi Gallery, the cathedral, the Ponte Vecchio etc. so effortlessly demonstrate.
Situated 90 Km from the Holiday Centre, Siena "the beloved" is a mystical, gentle passionate and generous art centre. The city invite the visitor to stroll through its narrow Gothic streets, lined with palaces which converge on the famous Piazza del Campo, the setting for the famous horse race run the 2nd of July and 16th of August. Not to be missed are Palazzo Pubblico and the cathedral.
Situated 75 Km from the Holiday Centre, within its gridle of ramparts, Lucca has conserved a rich heritage of churches, palaces, squares and streets all of which help to give the town a very spacial atmosphere. Things to see are the cathedral (11C) and the old town.
Situated only 50 Km from the Holiday Centre, is the world famous city of the "Leaning Tower". The tower is one of the four constructions (the others being the cathedral, baptistry and cemetry) which form the Piazza dei Miracoli. Entering the Piazza from the west, through the Porta Santa Maria, affords the best view of the tower.
Situated 60 Km from the Holiday Centre, with its many medieval towers stands on a hilltop in the rolling Tuscan countryside. Not to be missed are Piazza della Cisterna, Piazza del Duomo and Rocca di Montestaffoli.
Situated 35 Km from the Holiday Centre. The Tuscan hills, a commanding position and well preserved walls, make a harmonius setting for the Etruscans, Roman and medieval town of Volterra. Ceramics and more than 600 Funerary urns in the worlds leading museum on the Etruscans. The town is famous for its alabaster.
Heading southwards along the coast one finds Populonia. Overlooking the Gulf of Baratti, it was originally an Etruscan settlement and a large amount of artefacts remain to this day, including the tombs and an interesting museum.
Only 3,5 Km away, Casale is the nearest town to the Centre. Consisting of only few hundred inhabitants, a bank, a post office, trattoria and pizzeria, lies on an inland hill and such affords a fantastic view over the surrounding countryside.
In the 18C the poet Carducci was born in the village that was later to bear his name, Castagneto Carducci. A large part of his youth was spent in Bolgheri where he wrote his famous poem "Davanti a San Guido" thet speaks of the remarkable 5 Km long Cypress alley which runs from Bolgheri to San Guido.
